As I have been working on my little farm lately, I have become aware of a battle inside of me. It is a battle between a modern lifestyle and a more simple down to earth lifestyle. Unlike the fairy tale battles of good and evil, this is a fight between two sides of myself that each has some good and evil.  Watching this battle has revealed an astonishing truth. I have been wrong about what actually brings true happiness to my life and I'm sure I'm not the only one who was deceived. 

Making a crochet hook out of wood is much easier than you would think. This project started for me when my wife told me that she wanted to pick up crocheting but would hold off for a while because we didn't have any crochet needles and were trying to stick to our budget. I figured that I would at least take a stab at making one for her and I found out that it is quite easy and they work well. Best of all, there is a certain satisfaction that comes from crocheting with a homemade hook.

I'll be the first to admit that the number one thing that kills the gardening spirit is weeding. And the sad fact is, weeds will never go away. We can reduce their numbers on our side of the fence, we can even bring in weed free compost to make raised beds, but more seed will blow over year after year. Before you give up all hope and turn your garden into a patio I want to present you with an  old timer trick that makes weeding the garden easy.
